Piper, Sumner runners go the distance at De Soto
Rain gives way (for a while) to a beautiful race day

Rain pushed the start of Saturday’s De Soto cross country meet back an hour, and it poured again just as the medals were being handed out.
In between was a gloriously cool morning, perfect for a five-kilometer run around Lexington Lake Park.
Quinn Hanson placed fifth in the boys’ race for Piper, and teammate Elizabeth Arenas placed fifth in the girls’ race. The two have been consistently top performers for the Pirates, earning medals in each of their first three competitions.
The Piper boys’ team placed third overall, and the girls’ team placed fifth.

Sumner’s Lucas Rietema placed tenth in the boys’ race for the Sabres, who have a large contingent of racers out for cross country again this year.
Head coach Sherlice Wesson noted that the school optimistically ordered twenty uniforms each for the boys’ and girls’ teams, but still need to pull uniforms from prior years in order to accommodate the large number of students participating.
The Sumner boys placed sixth as a team, and the Lady Sabres placed eighth.
