The Piper Pirates’ track and field teams continued their blistering start to the 2025 season, sweeping the top team awards at the Bobcat Relays, hosted by Basehor-Linwood High School Friday evening.
The sprinters led the way for the Piper boys. Skyler Little swept the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and fellow senior Shinji Pollard likewise swept the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
The rapid duo joined forces with Eli Watts and long jump winner Da’Mon Jamierson to win the 4×100-meter relay by 0.8 seconds over the host Bobcats’ squad.
For the Piper girls, Nora Turney continued to rewrite the school record book, with a blazing 12.65-second time in the 100-meter hurdles and a 2-second margin over Turner’s Alyasia Ollie in the 300-meter hurdles.
Breckyn Shaw swept the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs for Piper, and also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4×800-meter relay team, with Ann McPherson, Jaslyn Wiseman, and Kate Lockamy. Their time of 10 minutes, 21.73 seconds beat the previous school record by nearly 14 seconds.
The Piper girls clinched the team trophy over the Lady Bobcats in the evening’s final event, besting their rivals by placing second in the 4×400-meter relay.
The Bonner Springs boys finished third on points, as did the girls. Chasitee Sambol was a big contributor to the girls’ team result, placing second in discus, javelin, and triple jump, as well as third in shot put. Her triple jump distance of 36-feet, 10 1/2-inches is a new school record.
Rylan Howard and Corey Rolfe finished one-two in the boys’ high jump for the Braves. Rolfe won the triple jump, and ran in the 4×100-meter relay team that placed third.
For Turner, Alyasia Ollie finished second in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, and Tramaine Smith and Phillip Jones finished second and third in the boys’ long jump.
The Golden Bears’ boys’ 800-meter sprint medley relay team finished first, outlasting rival squads from Basehor-Linwood and Maranatha that were both disqualified. The result helped the team finish fifth.
