Senior Miles Dean, a three-time state qualifier, claimed a spot on the podium in the 132-pound weight class with a gutsy climb up the back side of the bracket, winning three straight matches after an opening round 5-1 decision loss to Jackson Goodman of Emporia.
Dean was close to being eliminated in his first consolation match Friday afternoon, when Maize South's Gabriel Meade got an early takedown on him.
